Talk To Me

Talk To Me

I am on a real wooden bead kick.  My husband thinks this latest iteration really showcases my New Age, hippie side.  Jasper sat with me while I worked and chatted while tackling his new Lego kit.  Yesterday was his 7th birthday.  I remember 7.  I have memories prior to being 7, but they are flash bulb moments rather than a memory of the time.  We talked about what he could remember of his short life. He could remember is 5th birthday, but not his 4th. He remembered his Grandma taking him to the hospital to meet Wylie. He remembered stepping in a wasps nest before he started kindergarten, but he could not remember a single experience at preschool, though he remembered the names and faces of all of his teachers. I love talking to this kid. This week we retold him the story of the day he was born, it's a funny story. We decided to share bits of our conversation and our pictures with you today, along with a tutorial for my MGMT dream catcher at the end. You'll see it in the boys room tour next week...

Peaches and Cream

Peaches and Cream

Aside from being one of my nicknames for Wylie, "peaches and cream" was always one of my favorite instant oatmeal choices growing up. With peaches in season now it seemed the perfect time to make our own version for breakfast using almond milk.

The secret to making the perfect bowl of microwave oatmeal is to cook it with milk instead of water, it puffs and softens the oats.  Here's how we did it...

It's All Around You

It's All Around You

Sometimes I need a little reminder.  Do you? I can be kind of a moody person, it runs in our family, I passed it on to one of my kids.  I try to harness my moodiness for good. I think it comes with being a little introverted, and creative. I try to acknowledge that I need time inside my own head, and sometimes I really need peace and quiet...and having a three year old now deeply engaged in his whining and tantrum phase sure isn't helping. So, I signed him up for a summer camp this week, and I'm taking care of business, getting happy, finishing the unfinished.  Look forward to another post from Jasper this week, and a new yummy recipe using stone fruit, and if all goes well, next week I'll have a new video post for you!

About A Girl

About A Girl

I'm not the kind of girl who wears a lot of jewelry.  My earlobes are so sensitive that I can't really wear earrings very often, and I find accessorizing to be so challenging that I usually just buy clothes with interesting prints and collars to avoid having to style myself.  On occasion I do rock a big bib necklace, but that's only for fancy dress, so I was pretty excited when I found Martha Stewart's tutorial for making a more casual version from wooden beads.  Her DIY employed all sorts of tools and wire, so I modified mine using only beads (1/2") and embroidery thread (that string art project is the gift that keeps on giving).  I love the bit of red that peeks out between the wood grain. Here's the link to her original tutorial, I followed a very similar pattern.
