Martha Stewart's Bubble Recipe

Martha Stewart's Bubble Recipe

I found a pin for making your own bubbles, originally from Martha Stewart in July/August 1999 - back when I was interviewing for my first big girl job in San Francisco, far before I cared to make my own bubbles, or thought I'd ever have a kid with such cute kissy lips. Now that I'm an old lady, I know the value of bubbles, which is to say they are highly entertaining, but they get spilled like that (finger snap). I tested this recipe and it rocks. The solution is viscous, and strong, and produces bubbles that are massive and hover in the air for several seconds before really moving.  It also cost me about $1.50 to make a half-gallon.  Keep reading and I'll give you the recipe and tell you about these wands.

Martha Martha Martha

Martha Martha Martha

It's no secret that the woman who inspired many of the bloggers in my niche to start writing and sharing their recipes and DIY's is of course Martha Stewart.  She's the high priestess of domesticity.  I have had a subscription to Living since forever and I usually make something from each issue.  This past month she featured a recipe for one pan pasta that we immediately tested out, and I can already tell it'll be a mainstay in our house, with some variations. It only takes about 20 minutes to prepare from start to finish, so it's a winner for parents. I'm sharing this today, because I'm going to be testing some other Martha recipes and DIY's this week, making them my own by switching up ingredients and materials.  For this first one, I thought I'd give a few suggestions to make this dish more hearty, and how to change up the flavors.

I made this for you

I made this for you

Last weekend we sold our car, the last vintage of Toyota Corolla to have a tape player. Adam had to pull his Van Halen "1986" tape from the deck before handing over the keys.  I remember my first ghetto blaster.  I loved to lay on my belly and record the radio.  Occasionally it would eat the tape and I'd have to rewind it with a pencil.  Over the years I have made a million mix tapes. I still have so many of them, some from friends, some from boys. A mix tape won me my last boyfriend.  It's true. There is something so much more permanent about a mix tape than a playlist on Spotify.  I love picking out the songs so they are just right together, a mix of old and new, with a perfect ending. You can send secret messages. I originally conceived of this post for a Father's Day idea, but I'm making this one for Adam for our anniversary next week.  Since his fancy new Prius doesn't have a tape player I made him this instead.

WHOOPIE! pies

WHOOPIE! pies

Today's post comes from Jasper my almost 2nd grader.  Yesterday we made this treat together and he shot all the pictures (I snapped a couple of him). We used the iPhone with various VSCO filters. We talked about the different kids of pictures he'd need to get to tell a story. This is a fun summertime collaboration, because he gets to see how to do a post project from start to finish, he practices his writing skills, and we get to do it together. He picks the projects and writes about them, and here's what he has to say today:

The Talkies

I warned you that I'd being doing this soon! Let me know what you think of our first video post. I really could not have gotten this project off the ground were it not for my friend Pete who helped me brainstorm, let me micro-manage each shot, and waited while I learned how to use iMovie. I also need to say thank you to Zach for letting me use his beautiful music from Release The Sunbird. His latest Rogue Wave album called Nightingale Floors is just now available on iTunes
