For all the parents who will be holding their heads in their hands on New Years Day, my husband Adam has the cure....
People have all kinds of ideas about Bloody Marys. Recipes haggle over what kind of this to add to how much of that, but for me, a good drink begins with construction. It's the process that creates the product. With that in mind, here are the steps to create a damn fine Bloody Mary:
My friend Jeph is another cocktail connoisseur. He likes to create and name his own drinks. This one will keep you warm on a cold winter's night....
To kick off fellas week I invited my friend Derick to write about his new signature cocktail...
We are so excited to celebrate 4th of July here at our new house. The weather is amazing and our good friends will be coming up from Oakland to visit us for a few days. To keep cool we'll be drinking plenty of lemonade (and drinks with lemonade in them). In an effort to do yet another project involving my favorite Kikkerland striped straws, I created these wide mouth jam jar sippers. Using a 5/16 all purpose bit, simply hold the jar steady, centering the bit on the circular depression in the lid, apply very little pressure and allow the drill to pull itself in. Turn the lid over and gently hammer down the metal on the backside, removing any jagged pieces. Wash jars and lids thoroughly before use. Picture tutorial below.
They say when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Well, life gave me a lot of lemons this weekend, about 3 dozen in total. My in-laws have a meyer lemon tree that really overproduces and as a result we've perfected our homemade lemonade recipe. The glass bottles are from IKEA. They are perfect to throw on ice for a bbq and fit on the door of the refrigerator. I used a grease pen to mark which was which. Here are three variations, Original, Lavender-Thyme, and Ginger...

Leading up to every major family gathering, someone in our immediate family gets wicked sick. It's a fact. There was the great summer flu of 2010, where we wiped out the entire family while on vacation in Pajaro Dunes. We had already established ourselves as Typhoid Mary the Thanksgiving prior when my nephew Luke was born, and we promptly dismantled the family including the new baby with a preschool acquired tummy bug. Last year when we hosted Christmas, my husband and I passed a doozy of a stomach flu onto the family, sidelining my sister-in-law Stacey from New Years festivities. For a family that rarely gets sick, we sure choose to do so at the worst times. So this last week we were not all that surprised when Wylie spiked a fever and evacuated from every orifice the day before Thanksgiving, the dinner we were to be hosting. The whole family decided to come anyway, and we're still waiting to find out who we've knocked down. Jasper came down with it on Saturday, and is just now feeling better.
