I love you Alexander Girard

It's no secret that my favorite artist/designer is Alexander Girard.  When I grow up  I want to be him.  Alas, I own only one textile featuring his work, but it's a pillow with boobies on it, so at least it's a good one.  I have tried to style my house in Girard, Jonathan Aldler kind way- kid friendly, happy colors, tongue in cheek graphic pattern with simple lines. So far I am most happy with the dining area, which features my grandparents 1950's Drexel table and chairs.  I am soon going to be adding their record player credenza and after moving my desk downstairs, I needed some DIY art for the wall. Looking to Girard for inspiration, I made three pieces using a lot of paint swatches lifted from the Home Depot.

Oh September in the Bay Area, it's hot and all I can think about is tweed.  A few weeks ago I found this article about foraging in the forest for the ingredients of what appeared to be a fairy and gnome style picnic, not my bag, but they had a recipe for homemade popsicles that made me abandon my ZOKU for the day and use up the leftover and afore mentioned olallieberries, simply because the recipe called for twigs, which are in my opinion, cool.

I've had a crazy couple of weeks.  We were out by the Playhaus and got ambushed by a swarm of yellow jackets which was as insane as it sounds. After a month long interview process I was offered a job, accepted the job, and ended up needing to walk away. Oh and Jasper started Kindergarten. I've realized though at times being a mother can be a scary, frustrating, and sort of personally stifling experience for me. For now at least, it's what I am good at and I really am lucky that I have the opportunity to be their mom.

I've had a subscription MS Living since I was in my early 20's, which I know is not cool, but I've learned how to do grown up  things from the expert and it earned me the moniker "Martha Jr." Watch out, I'm coming for you lady. This month she has a spread on skillet meals.  I like the one pot idea and I love our perfectly seasoned cast iron skillet, which was found at the Alameda Flea Market. I decided to set my whole week up with recipes from this article and a few from our own kitchen.  We kicked it off last night with a deep dish pizza, but tonight has turned into a dinner that will unofficially celebrate the night before Jasper's first day of Kindergarten with some of his favorite things, I'll feature that skillet recipe below.

This week I spent a little time thinking about my fall wardrobe.  I've been reading up on trends and evaluating what gets to stay and what gets to go in my closet.  I have an extensive collection of pretty work dresses from my former career as a bridal consultant, many of which I have no place to wear anymore, but I love them for their fit and pattern.  Vogue tells me the whole dress over pants thing is back, unfortunately I spent so many years shedding that 90's look that it's hard for me to imagine putting it back into practice, unless of course the dress is really mini.
